Foldables Still Cost Too Much

There's no difference between a $2,000 and $900 foldable. You need to be everything for me to get me to spend that much.

This week's newsletter was obviously going to be a dump of all our coverage of Samsung Galaxy Unpacked. Ron and I covered the company's foldables event in Brooklyn, from the press-only content capture to the actual Unpacked event itself. We spent some time with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, touching and holding them. We also saw the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and the refreshed Galaxy Watch 8, which I'll be testing as soon as I finish my review of the OnePlus Watch 3 in 43mm.

Overall, it was an especially fruitful week for those in the Samsung ecosystem with disposable income. If you're planning on spending upwards of $2,000 on the next Galaxy Z Fold 7, I'd love to talk to you. Are you enamored by the fact that Samsung adopted the 200-MP camera from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, even though the protruding lens turns the Z Fold 7 into a telegraph for tapping out Morse code? The improved camera sensor is a step in the right direction. But call me when Samsung incorporates nearly everything from the Ultra into the Fold, and then we can discuss the justification of that price tag.
