Light As a Feather

The phones may have launched, but there's still more to come from the Android ecosystem.

It's almost gourd season, time to bust out The Craft references. Image: Sony Pictures, though it's a screenshot from a million YouTube clips of this scene

This week's newsletter is brief, with minimal narrative. You see, folks, even though the world may have moved on from the pandemic, the pandemic has not moved on from infecting our bodies and making us more susceptible to germs and bacteria that are still out there.

This isn't a "Make America Healthy Again" rant, I swear. This is a reminder that SARS-CoV-2 can temporarily, and sometimes for a longer duration, disrupt the immune system after infection. My body just fought an intense battle. The cavalry was wiped out, allowing the deliciously painful streptococcus to invade my tonsils. As much as I wanted to tune in this week to the news at Qualcomm's annual Snapdragon Summit in the idyllic-but-still-deprecated-by-wildfires Maui and push back against the iPhone-carrying naysayers shaking their heads at Xiaomi's 17 Pro, I did not have the energy.

Next week marks the start of October, which means there's plenty more to look forward to on our platform of choice. A smart home announcement is coming from Google. And the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a are shipping soon, which means reviews should be right around the corner. Additionally, OnePlus has teased its next flagship offering, which will feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. We're still waiting for word from Samsung on when Project Moohan will make its debut (which made an appearance in Hawaii). Things are happening! But first, we rest.

💚This week on Android Faithful

Huyen and Jason hosted a two-fer. They talked about where Gemini is headed. Jason reviewed the TCL Nxtpaper 60 Ultra, while Huyen detailed the latest Nothing earbuds and their walkie-talkie features.

  • Qualcomm's CEO wants us all to know that he's seen Google's idea for merging Android with the PC, and he thinks it's "incredible." I'll believe it when I see it!
  • And then, Google's head of the Android ecosystem, Sameer Samat, gave the rundown of what's happening to Android and ChromeOS
  • A Gemini-powered sidekick is on its way to help you play games. Let's see if it works, because right now, Gemini thinks that Hello Kitty Island Adventure is Ooblets whenever I ask it to help my kid with quests
