Gemini at Google I/O 2025: What Android Users Need to Know

The Android Faithful gang is in Mountain View for Google I/O 2025. Google dropped a ton of incremental announcements related to AI during the keynote. After last week's Android-specific news, it was no surprise that today's keynote would focus squarely on updates to Gemini and how the company plans to infuse AI into every part of Google.

The keynote offered a glimpse at Android XR and how Gemini will be a part of the mixed-reality platform. But it was merely a snippet and not enough to hedge any bets.

There is other stuff to look forward to in the coming months. Here's a quick rundown of what you should know about today's Gemini announcements at Google I/O 2025 as an Android user.

Gemini 2.5 is the sequel

Gemini 2.5 is the shining star of the show this year. Flash and Pro will generally be available soon. It will include Deep Think, which should improve Gemini's ability to tackle complex math and coding problems.

Gemini Live with camera for all—even iOS

Gemini Live with camera and screen-sharing has been limited to paid subscribers thus far. Today, Google announced that the feature will be available on Android and iOS. It's a good time to call up your iPhone-loving friends and family and preach the gospel of Gemini. (Do it soon, because Apple could pull a whopper next month at its developer conference and destroy your core argument.)

Gemini as a personal shopper

Google launched AI Mode as a part of Search earlier this month. The experience includes access to a Gemini-infused shopping experience. It includes virtual try-ons where you can upload a photo of yourself and try on clothing items. Different body types included! The virtual try-on is rolling out in Search Labs today and will be available to all in the interim.

Veo 3, Imagen 4, and Flow

You could use Google's new video generation models to concoct moving narratives with your smartphone. If you want. Theoretically. You're probably better off doing so through the desktop, though.

A coding co-pilot named Jules

Developers, Google is coming directly for you with its AI-based tools. Jules was introduced at Google I/O as the company's new autonomous coding agent. It's currently available in public beta. Again, you could probably use this on your smartphone, but I'd also hit this one up on the desktop.

Glasses with Gemini

Google announced new partners for its Android XR pursuits. We already know about Samsung, but at Google I/O, the company announced it's also partnering with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to manufacture stylish glasses you'd hopefully want to wear around town to talk to Gemini. The glasses will sync up with your Android device, so this counts.

Anything look interesting to you? We'll have more on Android (and Gemini!) from Google I/O 2025. Stay tuned.
